New Mexico Mission of Mercy Event to Provide Free Dental Care

NM MOM Las Cruces

March 1 – 4, 2012

Mission of Mercy (MOM) is a national organization that has been providing free dental care to individuals in need since 2000. The New Mexico Dental Foundation is planning the second NM MOM to be held in Las Cruces, March 1 – 4, 2012 (one day set up, two days treatment, one day pack up). NM MOM in Las Cruces will be a community-supported event and will be funded entirely through grants and donations. Local dental suppliers will play a large role in helping to make this event a huge success. Dental care will be provided free of charge to adults and children during the two-day event. Dental professionals and passionate volunteers from New Mexico, Texas, and cities across the United States will work together to accommodate the adults and children who seek dental care. The dental clinic will be open to all who wait in line to be seen. Care will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis to as many as can possibly be seen in two days.

Patient education is a large part of preventing dental disease. Dental hygienists and dental assistants will be on site to answer questions and provide information related to good, healthy dental care.

The inaugural New Mexico Mission of Mercy held in October 2010 in Albuquerque provided almost $1.3 million in dental services and treated 2,201 patients. Over 1,700 volunteers donated their time to make the event successful.
